Goal 1: MVHS will improve college and career readiness by decreasing the percentage of chronically absent students to 25% through adhering to a series of procedures which will include: Advisory Phone Calls, Student Assistance Team (SAT), Home Visits, and Attendance Hearings. To be measured by student attendance rates trough May 1, 2019.
-Advisory Phone Calls: A call home if a student has missed 5 days in a semester. The Advisor will notify the parent of the number of days absent, identify the reason for the absences, identify if there is a need for supports, and advice the parent if the student misses more than 9 days in a semester the student and parent will need to participate in an Attendance Hearing in order to receive credit. Advisory completes a form documenting the phone conversation and submits it to the SAT.
-Student Assistance Team: Reviews the forms submitted by the Advisors and determines next steps based on the information provided. The SAT will meet on a weekly basis and will have the discretion to address the situation as the team sees fit.
-Home Visits: The SAT will use this as a possible intervention. All home visits will include at least two staff members and will be documented by the SAT. This documentation will include the following: Date, Time, Staff Members, Summary of Conversation, and Recommendations.
-Attendance Hearings: After a student has missed 9 school days the student and parent (guardian or caring adult) will be required to attend a hearing to:
*Review reasons for absences
*Review documentation for absences
*Review previous interventions
*Develop new Interventions or strategies to prevent future absences
*Design a contract
*Distribute outcomes to all pertinent adults (Staff, Parents, Case Managers, etc.)
Goal 2: To create a higher level of consistency in all classes there will be a full implementation of the RSU 10 Proficiency Based Model coupled with support. This will be measured by pre and post staff surveys designed to measure the faculties understanding and implementation of district wide procedures related to PBE. Supports will include professional development on:
Professional development will occur during Late Arrival Wednesdays (LAW’s), Reflective Practice Days, Staff Meetings, District Vertical Teams, and other out of district opportunities.
Consistency with implementation will be measured through quarterly staff and student surveys reflecting adherence to the RSU 10 grades 6-12 Proficiency Based Education Handbook.
